Kirstie Allsopp came to Abinger Stained Glass
to learn how to make a leaded light catcher for
her bathroom. Stained glass can transform a room
and Kirstie was very keen to match the colours
of her bathroom with those in her stained glass.
In the spring of 2009 with Amanda's help and tuition
Kirstie Allsopp cut the glass and leaded the pieces
together to create her very own free hanging stained
glass panel. This was filmed for the first series
of "Kirstie's Homemade Home", and was
aired on Channel Four in 2009.
The first series of "Kirstie's Homemade
Home" followed Kirstie as she transformed
a dilapidated seaside house in Devon into the
ultimate homemade home, using traditional methods
and crafts sourced from within the UK.
In each episode, Kirstie visited craftspeople
and was taught the basics of their various crafts
to create personal pieces to decorate and accessorise
her home. Cushions, mosaics, candles, glassware
and, with Amanda at Abinger Stained Glass, stained
glass panels.
Kirstie said, 'I want to prove that you can create
something unique and wonderful using amazing artisans
from around the UK rather than going down the
same old mass produced route. I think it is possible
to budget sensibly and buy British and I'm keen
to show that.'

Kirsties team came back to Amanda in 2010 to film
for the new series of Kirsties Homemade
Home. This time Kirstie Allsopp helped 6 families
to transform their houses using UK crafts and
bargain hunting.
Kirstie and Amanda helped Gemma and Shaun while
they learnt the basics of leaded light making
for their house.
