Barcelona

In April 2007, I was a finalist in the Vidre-Idea glass competition held at the Fundacio del Vidre de Barcelona, Spain.

The work, 'Fragility' is a collaboration between myself and Karen Lucas, a textile designer.

'Fragility' is inspired by our thoughts and feeling surrounding global warming. The earth is depicted broken into 12 equal pieces, still very beautiful and within each piece of fused glass there are textures and patterns. The ghost of a fern or flower and the stratum of the earth fused and cast into the glass.

Floating behind the Earth is the atmosphere made from hand crafted silk felt.

I offset my flight to Barcelona by planting trees in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya using the website www.carbonfootprint.com.
