Pyrford Cross
The brief for this piece of glasswork was that it should be visible
at times of worship but subtle at all other times. This is in a
newly built foyer on The Church of the Good Shepherd in Pyrford,
Surrey. This church is used very much by the community as not only
a place of worship but also a meeting place for various groups.
Parent and baby groups, artists meetings and receptions are all
held in the new extension.
The glass is in a very light area with clear glass to the ceiling
and practically the full height of the walls as well. It was a tall
order to produce something to fit the criteria and still have some
presence.
The cross is made up from the words of the 23rd Psalm, The Lord
is my Shepherd
.
and then deep sandblasted and acid polished. The whole piece of
glass is hung from the top on two neat rods into the wall and sitting
in a light box. At night the cross looks stunning when lit and is
also visible by day.
